From a Butcher’s Shop to a Museum: The History of a House
26 03 2021–27 06 2021
"Some 100 years after the idea was first brought up, Vilnius opened its first city museum in 2021.
In 1912, a magazine in Warsaw discussed the need for Vilnius to have its own city museum, which grew into an active discussion during the interwar years. A building acquired in 1939 was meant to house the museum, but the plan was put on hold after the outbreak of the Second World War.
The first exhibition, From a Butcher’s Shop to a Museum: The History of a House,
focuses on the history of the building itself, which housed a butchery for several hundred years.
