About the material:
An average Tetra Pak carton is made of about 70% paperboard, 25% plastic and 5 % aluminium layer to protect its contents. These different components are not easily separated by the recycling process, the reason is not a recyclable everywhere.
Availability:
used briks are lagerly available in many cafés and canteens.
About the idea and process:
This carpet is made for the performance “Galaxies”, director Jūratė Trimakaitė, production Kano Kamerinis teatras and Teatro istorijos. As soon as we started to work on this project, we have decided that different type of card board and paper will be the main materials to make set, puppets and props. I wanted to stick to this idea and and use paper for the carpet as well. I have chosen tetra park cartons because they are waterproof and durable enough. Carpet design is double face and during the performance both sides are visable. It is made from abou 500 square segments wich are joined with the plastic tape. At the bigging I was willing to join the suares by the machine sewing but later on opted for the faster option,
Pros and cons
Cartons are largely available and free material, easy to work with by hand.
Collecting cartons, rinsing and drying them and finally cutting them in to a large quantity of yarn requires planning in advance and committed team work.
